Anja Braeuer

We are sad to announce the passing of Anja Braeuer who left the Earth surrounded by her loved ones, after living with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) for 2 years. Anja was born on March 23, 1977 in Suhl, Germany and left us on December 30, 2023 in Suwanee, GA.

Anja was predeceased by her father, Rainer. Anja is survived by her loving husband Frank, her dear son Finn, her mother Margit, her brother Steffen, and her grandmother Renate.

Anja grew up in Suhl, Germany. She graduated with a master’s degree from the University of Applied Sciences in Schmalkalden, Germany. In 2009 Anja, her husband and her son moved as expats to Georgia to work at their company’s Norcross, GA office. She loved her work as a financial controller and was very dedicated to it. Even after her sickness progressed and her ability to work became limited, she continued to support her colleagues to the best of her ability.

Anja received support and loving care from many people which made her final years, months, and days more bearable. With help from her husband Frank, son Finn, mother Margit, friends Anja K., Katharina, Kim, Nadja, and Pam, Anja was able to remain in her home in the care of her loved ones. Many thanks go to her Enhabit home-health team, Brandy, the ALS Clinic team at Mayo in Jacksonville, FL (Dr. Oskarsson and team), and Dr. Samantha Lewis. Words cannot express the amount of gratitude we have for each of these caregivers. Anja and her family knew they had a capable team who also served them with love. We would also like to thank all of her friends and colleagues at Adtran, who have helped and supported her greatly.

Anja was a loving and generous person. She was a wonderful friend, a loving wife and a devoted mother to a son that she adored. She loved life and it was her final wish to have a “Celebration of Life” instead of a sad funeral. We will honor her and her wish with celebrations in Germany and in Georgia. Please join us to a reception on January 14th, 2pm at Schlupfwinkel in Meiningen/Germany to celebrate and remember Anja. The party in Georgia will be at the OAC clubhouse, starting at 2pm on January 21st; for details please see the following link http://evite.me/3X4uJqdFFH. She will be terribly missed and will always hold a place in our hearts.

Donations to be made in Anja’s name to the ALS Association (https://www.als.org/donate) and Team Gleason (https://teamgleason.org/donate/) are requested in lieu of flowers or gifts. Both organizations supported Anja actively, the ALS Association by providing free of charge rental mobility vans and Team Gleason by helping greatly with Anja’s beloved TD Pilot (iPad with built-in eye-tracker).
