Archie Kirtley Lytle III, aged 90, a resident of Sugar Hill, Georgia, passed away on Friday, December 9, 2022, in Lawrenceville, Georgia.
Archie III was born on March 23, 1932 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Archie Kirtley Lytle, Jr and Deane Doorn Lytle. On March 13, 1962, in Detroit, Michigan, he was united in marriage to his love, Florence Johnson. They were blessed to celebrate 60 years in marriage.
Archie was a true rock to those who knew him. He was a loving, patient, strong husband, father, and grandfather. He cared for all who had the pleasure of being in his presence. A lifelong learner and educator he encouraged those around him to pursue their dreams and wanted the best for everyone he met. He has been retired for 25 years as an educators, and during his working career he was a mathematics professor or administrator at multiple Universities the last being Georgia State University (Dunwoody). He spent most of his work life in administration for the Detroit Public School system.
Archie enjoyed gardening and the outdoors. Along with his wife and family he enjoyed dining out, socializing, traveling and square dancing.
Archie was a convert to the Greek Orthodox religion and his church was very important to him. He took great joy in his church family and was a member of multiple parishes during his life. In the early years of marriage, he helped organize the Greek Orthodox church in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. After moving to Georgia, he was instrumental in the formation of Saints Raphael, Nicholas and Irene Greek Orthodox Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters; Ina Cook and Linda Huppenbecker, brother-in-law’s; Robert Cook, Ken Williams, Charles Huppenbecker, Nicholas Mighion, nephew; Robert Cook, Jr.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife Florence Johnson Lytle, his children; Archie (Marika Diamond) Lytle IV and Deane Lytle (Stephen) Barnard, his sister; Barbara Williams, his Grandchildren; Archie Lytle V, George Lytle, Mary Lytle, Anastasia Lytle, Alexandra Lytle, James Barnard, Michael Barnard, Heather Barnard, Sister-in-law’s; Mary (Thomas) Casoglos, Helen Mighion, many nieces, nephews, God children and all blessed to have had the opportunity to know him.
The family will receive visitors at the Ingram Funeral Home, 210 Ingram Ave, Cumming, GA 30040 on Monday, December 12, 2022, from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm with a 5:00pm, Trisagion service.
The funeral service will be held at 10:00 am (instate 9:30 a.m.) at Sts. Raphael, Nicholas, and Irene Greek Orthodox Church, 3074 Bethelview Road, Cumming, GA 30040 on Tuesday, December 13. 2022. Burial will follow the service at Sawnee View Gardens, 1390 Dahlonega Hwy, Cumming, GA 30040
