Ava Jane (Davis) Layne

On Tuesday, November 1, 2022, Ava Jane (Davis) Layne, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away in Cumming, GA, at age 77.

Known to many by her middle name, Jane was born on April 28,1945 in Jacksonville, FL to Crawley Wilbur Davis and Stella Maude (James) Davis. She graduated from Ribault High School in Jacksonville, FL in 1963. After high school Jane worked for the Federal Reserve Bank before meeting her husband, Harold Atlee Layne. Harold and Jane were married on November 27,1964 and would have celebrated their 58th anniversary this month. After their wedding Jane and Harold first settled in Harold’s hometown of Charleston, WV.  In 1966 they moved to Jacksonville, FL and in July of 1967 they welcomed their first child, a son, Adam Scott. Three years later, in June1970, they welcomed their second child, a daughter, Laura Shai. Jane and her family would move to Douglasville, GA in 1970 where they would live for eight years. In 1978 the family moved to Long Valley, NJ. Jane would make her final move with her husband in 1995 to Cumming, GA.

Over the years Jane grew strong in her faith and enjoyed reading her bible and sharing the word of God with her family and friends. She had memorized seven of her favorite Psalms and would recite them out loud daily. She loved to write stories, poems and make up silly songs when her grandchildren were young. She was known for her beautiful blue eyes, positive outlook on life, strong will and determination, and speaking her mind.  Jane had an ability to start up a conversation with anyone who would listen. She loved spending time with her grandchildren during family trips in the summer and over the holidays, and in more recent years over the phone or on Facetime.

Jane was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Harold Atlee Layne, their children Adam Scott Layne of Richmond, VA and Laura Shai (Layne) Hathaway and her husband David of Ashburn, VA., her six grandchildren, Addison, Ainsley, Jenna and Reese Hathaway and Eleanor and Adam Layne and two great-grandchildren, Palmer and Wesley Layne, her brother Crawley Wilbur Davis, Jr. and his wife Robbie (Glenda) of Jacksonville, FL and nieces Katie (Davis) Newton and Kelli (Davis) Garrison.

A small private celebration of life will be held with family at a later date.
