Barbara Ann Lee, of Alpharetta, Georgia, age 86, passed away peacefully at home with family by her side on January 1, 2024. She was born on April 19, 1937, in Plant City, Florida to Oscar and Myrtle Driskell, and grew up in Moultrie, Georgia. 

Barbara is survived by her husband of 66 years, Rod Lee, whom she met at the First Baptist Church of Atlanta when she was in nursing school at Crawford Long in Atlanta on her way to becoming a Registered Nurse. She is also survived by her children Cathy Madison of Montgomery, Alabama and Britt Lee of Johns Creek, Georgia, and her daughter-in-law, Kay Lee.

Barbara’s pride and joy were her grandchildren, whom she is also survived by: Caroline Madison of Birmingham, Alabama, Lee Madison of Montgomery, Alabama, Annie Lee Van Dyke and her husband Luke Van Dyke of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Katherine Lee Yates and her husband Jacob Yates of Atlanta, Georgia, Brittain Lee of Johns Creek, Georgia, and Jack Lee of Johns Creek, Georgia. Barbara’s other surviving family members are nieces and nephews Cheryl Haskins (Bill) of Valdosta, Georgia, Lisa Simoneau (Paul) of Moultrie, Georgia, Susan Behn (Chuck) of Harrison, Tennessee, and Jerry Driskell of Holiday Island, Arkansas, as well as her grand nieces and nephews, Alex Beall of Nashville, Tennessee, Shanna Beall of Valdosta, Georgia, Zachary Behn (Madison) of Dallas, Texas, Alysha Behn of Astoria, New York and Michelle Behn of Dallas, Texas.

Barbara and Rod were members of Briarlake Baptist Church in Tucker, Georgia for twenty years before moving to Peachtree Corners in 1982, when they began attending and subsequently became very active members of Perimeter Church. Barbara was instrumental in helping start the Perimeter Bookstore, while also being very involved with caring for babies in the Perimeter Nursery. In 1998, Barbara and Rod relocated to Big Canoe, Georgia, where they lived for 12 years and were very involved in the Big Canoe community and the Big Canoe Chapel. Barbara and Rod eventually moved back to the Cumming/Alpharetta area to be closer to family and were excited to rejoin Perimeter Church. 

Barbara also loved to serve as a volunteer in organizations she was passionate about such as Georgia Nurses for Life, Pickens County Pregnancy Center, and Northside Hospital, among others. Barbara also had a passion for playing tennis, golf, bridge, traveling, reading and cheering on the Atlanta Braves and Georgia Tech. 

A memorial service will be held at Perimeter Church Day Chapel in Johns Creek, Georgia on Friday, January 5 at 2:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Barbara Lee Memorial Fund to support those in need, as Barbara so often did.
