Billy Cowart

James William Cowart “Billy” was born July 10, 1936 and went home to be with The Lord April 25, 2026. Billy is preceded in death by his mother and father Abigia and Inez Cowart, his wives Helen Cowart, Katherine Martin and Peggy Bailey, son Ricky Cowart, daughter Chris Croft, granddaughter Cortney Boles and sister in law Linda Cowart.

 He is survived by his brother Frank and Barbra Cowart, sister Hazel and Wayne McCurley, daughter and son in law Lisa and Keith Kilby, daughter in law Peggy Cowart, grandson Michael Cowart, granddaughters Nicole and Randy Pugh, Brittany and Cody Cox, Mikayla and Trevor Waters. Great grandchildren Eli, Cooper and Georgia Pugh, Carson Floyd and his name sake Hartley James Cox. Step children Judy and Todd Holtzclaw and family and Tony and Penny Samples and family and several nieces and nephews.

Billy proudly served in the United States Army for 4 years, he was dedicated member and deacon of Pine Crest Baptist Church for 60 years. Billy loved hot black coffee, gardening, hunting, fishing, camping, his family and most of all he loved The Lord. 

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at 2:00 PM, in the chapel of Ingram Funeral Home with Nathan Waters, Rev. Jonathan Kirby, Rev. Butch Kirk, and Rev. Keith Kilby officiating.  The interment will follow at Sawnee View Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, April 27, 2026 from the 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM, on Tuesday from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM, and again on Wednesday from 9:00 AM until the hour of service.
