Carolyn Louise Schafer

Carolyn Louise Hay Schafer passed away peacefully on December 13, 2025 at the age of 90. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 68 years, Robert Schafer.

Carolyn was born on March 26, 1935 in Cleveland, Ohio, to her mother Olive Stroup and father George Hay.

She married her high school sweetheart Robert (Bob) Eugene Schafer on December 27th, 1956, the same year that she graduated from St Lukes Hospital School of Nursing in Shaker Heights, Ohio. Carolyn began her work as a nurse in Columbus Ohio and continued her career later in New Jersey. When she finished her successful career in the medical field, her love of books led her to work later as a full-time library assistant at Logan College of Chiropractic in Chesterfield, Missouri. She enjoyed the job so much—combining her passion for reading and desire to pass it on to younger generations—that after moving to Georgia years later, she again worked as a library assistant at Georgia Perimeter College in Dunwoody, Georgia. Outside of work, Carolyn used much of her time to serve and help others. She was an active member of Johns Creek Methodist Church, serving in their library, of course; as a kitchen angel; and in other ministries. At home, she and Bob shared a love for gardening and both became Master Gardeners in their retirement. Above all, Carolyn was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

She is survived by daughter Lynn Louise Traynor (Chip), son William Robert Schafer (Elissa), grandchildren Sara Taylor (Chad), Carson Schafer, Emmaline Schafer (Max), Audrey Barr (Thomas), Miles Schafer, and great grandchildren Charlotte and Emma Taylor.

A celebration of life service will be held Sunday, December 28, at 4:30 p.m. at the Ingram Funeral Home. There will be a family graveside service Monday, December 29, at 11:00 a.m. at Georgia National Cemetery.
