Charles “Chuck” Hall Crauswell, Jr.

Charles "Chuck" Hall Crauswell Jr., age 65, passed away on July 23rd, 2025. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Chuck was a custom home builder known for his superior craftsmanship and easygoing style, which made the building process enjoyable for his clients — many of whom became close friends. Chuck was well known for his quick wit and sense of humor, which he kept, along with his faith in the Lord, until the very end. He loved boating, fishing, skiing, grilling, music, playing guitar, Alabama football, and, most of all, spending time with family and friends.

Chuck was born on August 25, 1959, in Birmingham, AL. He grew up attending Huffman Methodist Church and graduated from Huffman High School in 1977, remaining close with many lifelong friends. Throughout junior high and high school, Chuck worked in construction, gaining valuable experience in the homebuilding business. He later expanded his career in the commercial hardware, insulation, and waterproofing industries. This knowledge shaped his future career. In 1982, his daughter April was born, followed by his son Matthew in 1985. He married his beautiful wife, Patty, in 1991. A few years later, in 1996, he launched his own business, New World Homes, and in 1998, their youngest son, Trent, was born.

Throughout his career, Chuck built over 40 custom homes in the Birmingham and Lake Martin areas. He was a member of the Home Builders Association and was recognized as a Master Builder in the state of Alabama. He exemplified integrity and hard work, always doing the right thing for others. After living most of his life in Birmingham, he built his dream home on Lake Martin, creating countless memories with friends and family. Following a brief move to Auburn, AL, he retired from homebuilding and he and Patty moved to a beautiful community in Georgia in 2022. He worked part time for the Reeves + Young in Sugar Hill, GA, and retired in 2023 to be at home and bravely battle brain cancer.

Music was a lifelong passion for Chuck. He was an excellent guitar player and played in multiple cover bands over the years, most notably Cryin' Out Loud with Patty and several dear friends. He loved a good guitar solo, attended many concerts and jazz festivals, and even had the chance to meet one of his music heroes, Larry Carlton. Chuck was also very active in the Methodist church and shared his gift as a guitarist for the worship band.

Chuck also had a spirit of adventure. Once SCUBA certified, he dove with sharks in St. Croix. He traveled to Alaska, Italy, Hawaii, and Mexico to marvel at the sights God created, but some of his most treasured memories were closer to home-spending time with family and friends on the beaches of Seaside and Grayton Beach, Florida.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Hall Crauswell Sr. and Julia Imogene Crauswell. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Patricia Crauswell; three children, April Williams (Denny), Matthew Crauswell (Hadassah), and Trent Crauswell; six grandchildren, Carly Williams, Logan Williams, Chloe Williams, Luca Crauswell, Elia Crauswell, and Livia Crauswell; his sister, Jeannie King (Joe); and his sister-in-law, Kate Garner.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Workplay in Birmingham, AL, on September 21 at 2:30. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the charity of your choice in memory of Chuck.
