Christopher Kennedy

Christopher Kennedy, 77, of Gainesville, GA (Forsyth County), passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 23, 2025.

Chris was born on December 13, 1947, in Guam to Edward and June Kennedy. He spent his childhood in Oxford, Ohio, and later attended Miami University (Ohio), where he met the love of his life, Sue Ellen Saunders. The two graduated together and were married on August 16, 1969, beginning a partnership that would last more than five decades.

Chris earned his Master’s degree in Health Sciences from Georgia State University, where he later helped establish the Respiratory Therapy program. A dedicated professional, he also served as a past president of the Georgia Society of Respiratory Therapy.

A faithful member of The Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit in Cumming, GA, Chris served in various roles throughout the years, always offering his time and talents with joy and humility. Upon discovering his Scottish heritage, he and Sue joined the Kennedy Society of North America, where he proudly served as the 7th KSNA Chieftain.

Chris had a lifelong love for sailing and found great joy in teaching others the ropes and sharing the magic of the British Virgin Islands with family and friends. In later years, he found peace and purpose in gardening.

Known for his generous spirit, warm hugs, and ability to make everyone feel like a friend, Chris touched countless lives.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Sue Ellen Kennedy; daughters Lynn (Ted Johnson) and Ann (Dylan Rhoads); and his cherished grandchildren, lovingly known as the "Alphabet Gang": Abby, Ben, Christopher, David, and Emily. He is also survived by his sister Tina Eucks (Jim Eucks, deceased); sister-in-law Patty Hons (Rob Hons); and was preceded in death by his brother-in-law Jimmy Saunders (Molly Ann Saunders) and nephew Mark Newpert. He leaves behind five nieces and nephews—Becky, Sarah, Nathan (Emily), Rob, and Chris—as well as his beloved Godsons, Jeff Habel and Matthew McClelland.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at The Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit, with Father Brandon Mozingo officiating. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall.

In true Chris fashion, guests are encouraged to wear Scottish regalia or tartan in celebration of his heritage. In lieu of flowers, please honor Chris in your own meaningful way—whether through a donation to your favorite charity or by raising a “wee dram” in his memory.
