Born on October 19, 1954, Dan dedicated his life to faith, family, and serving others. For 25 years, he was a devoted member of Lighthouse Church, where he faithfully served in many different capacities.
Dan was a fourth-generation funeral director, compassionately serving families within the Atlanta and Charleston areas for 45 years. His calling was to walk alongside families in their most difficult moments, offering kindness, guidance, and care that reflected his deep heart for others.
He was also a proud member of the Rotary Club of Marietta, Georgia, and later the Rotary Club of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. A firm believer in the Rotary motto “Service Above Self,” Dan embodied this principle in both his professional and personal life, leaving a lasting impact on every community he was part of.
In addition to his professional service, Dan was a founding member of the Living Donor Institute at MUSC. A two-time kidney transplant recipient himself, he chose to give back by raising funds to promote living kidney donation and supporting research into the long-term effects of anti-rejection medications. His life was a true testimony of resilience, generosity, and faith.
Outside of his service and work, Dan loved tending to his garden, fishing, and hunting. He also had a lifelong passion for soccer and was a devoted fan of the South Carolina Gamecocks, cheering them on with pride. These simple joys reflected his love for both the outdoors and the community he cherished.
Dan was married to his devoted wife, Julie, for 35 years. Together, they built a life centered around love and faith. He was the proud father of two sons, Patterson and Hunter, and a cherished father-in-law to Ciarra. Dan adored his granddaughter, Emma, who lovingly called him “Papa” and brought him endless joy.
He is survived by his wife, Julie; sons, Patterson (Ciarra) and Hunter Allen; granddaughter, Emma Allen; his bothers, Jack Allen (Julie) and Hugh Allen; a sister, Laurell Millirons (Chuck); sister-in-law, Beth Allen (Jim Miller) and the late Fred Allen (his twin brother), as well as many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends of Dan Allen are invited to attend his Celebration of Life at 12 Noon on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at Lighthouse Church Worship Center, 1177 Gregorie Ferry Rd., Mt. Pleasant, SC 29466. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until the time of service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Emerson Rose Heart Foundation and Lighthouse Church (Missions), two organizations near and dear to Dan and Julie’s hearts.
The Allen family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to MUSC Transplant, Head and Neck Tumor Center, and Hollings Cancer Institute for all the care they gave to Dan over the last 17 years. The Allen family has been greatly impacted by organ donations and would appreciate for all to carefully consider becoming an organ donor. Through the generous gift of living donors, Dan was given the precious gift of life not once, but twice, and for that he was eternally grateful.
