Hoyt Derrel Carnes, age 79, of Cumming passed away Saturday, October 31, 2015. A native of Forsyth County, Derrel was born June 15, 1936 to the late Cliff and Josephine Hamilton Carnes. He retired as a Deputy Sheriff from the Forsyth County Sheriff's Department and also served as a Court Bailiff. Derrel was a member and Deacon of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his step-mother, Margaret Carnes and a sister, Barbara Bearden. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Ellen Grogan Carnes; a daughter and son-in-law, Amy Carnes Sanford and Michael Sanford; grandchildren, Levi Sanford and Maggie Sanford; a half-sister, Brenda; brothers-in-law, Gene Jeffers, Billie Bearden and Harold Grogan and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 3, at 4:00 p.m. at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church with Rev. Michael Cantrell and Rev. Randy Richards officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m., Monday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
