Dianne Fowler Scully Meyer

On June 18, 2025, Dianne Fowler Scully Meyer of Cumming, Georgia, passed away at home following a prolonged illness. Dianne was born to Dorothy Bagley Fowler and Billy Fowler on April 16, 1952, in Cumming, Georgia. Dianne graduated from Forsyth County High School in 1970 where she was a varsity cheerleader. She graduated from Georgia College in Milledgeville in 1974 with her Bachelor’s of Science in Education and began her teaching career that year at Midway Elementary School in Alpharetta, Georgia. She went on to obtain her Master of Education degree in 1978 from North Georgia College and her Education Specialist degree in 2008 from Piedmont College. Dianne taught fifth grade at Midway Elementary School for 37 years and had a profound impact on countless students. Dianne was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis in June 2024. From June 2024 until January 2025, she fought the disease on her feet and did not let it impede her many activities with her retired teacher friends. Dinner with friends on Mondays, Trivia Tuesdays, Longhorn Wednesdays, Movie Night Fridays and her Ruth Sunday School Class were always on the schedule until RSV and pneumonia kept her first in the hospital and then at home beginning in February. Dianne spent the last three months of her life in hospice care in her home in Cumming. Hardly a day went by that she did not have loved ones coming to the house with flowers, candy, tea-cakes, other sweets, and all kinds of gifts. Dianne was adored by everyone she came into contact with. Her cheery disposition and sharp sense of humor endeared her to hundreds. Visitors included family, former students, former colleagues at Midway, First Baptist Church Ruth class members, college roommates and high school girlfriends. She will be sorely missed by all. She is preceded in death by her parents, a brother, William David Fowler, a sister, Audrey Watkins, a step-father, Jim Scully, and a son-in-law, Chris Garner. She is survived by a brother, Jeffrey Scully (Sarah); her ex-husband, Bobby Meyer (Sietske); her daughter, Amy Meyer Garner; her beloved three grandsons who knew her as DeDe: Jake, Logan and Hank Garner; an aunt, Martha O. Fowler, and an uncle, Donald Bagley (Jean). A celebration of life is planned for 2:00pm on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at First Baptist Church in Cumming.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to any education charity of your choice in her name.
