Donald Richard Case (Rick), aged 77, of Cumming, Ga passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, July 22.
Rick was born on March 7, 1948, in Dawson (Terrell County), GA, and spent much of his early years in DeKalb County. He graduated from West Georgia College with a degree in business and received a Master of Education Administration from Georgia State University. Rick spent over 30 years as an educator. He began as a teacher and coached football, basketball, baseball, and tennis. Then he became a high school assistant principal, junior high principal, and superintendent of Forsyth County schools. He coached the North Georgia College tennis team and taught intro to education. After retiring, he enjoyed playing tennis and golf with his friends. His bucket list accomplishments included traveling to professional tennis tournaments at Wimbledon, the Australian Open, the U.S. Open, and the St. Andrews golf course in Scotland. Rick was an avid reader and always had a book checked out from the library. He was known as “Skipper” by his beloved granddaughters.
Rick was preceded in death by his father, Charles Donald Case, mother, Doris Brown Case, brother Randy Brown Case, in-laws L. C. and Joan Day, and sister-in-law, Pamela Day Cole. He is survived by his wife of 51 years Phyllis Day Case, son Ryan Case (Claudia) and granddaughters Clarion and Ella of Cumming, daughter Ashley Case of Edinburgh, Scotland, brother-in-laws Loy Day (Linda) of Alpharetta, Ga, Sam Cole of Mineral Bluff, Ga, sister-in-law Connie Case of Cumming, and sister Karen Fitch (Randy) of Kennesaw, Ga.
Family will receive visitors on Friday, July 25, from 4:00 to 7:00 at Ingram Funeral Home. A private memorial will be held at a later date.
