Edna Jean McNorton

Edna Jean Nelms McNorton, 84, of Cumming, Georgia, formerly of Clermont and Summerfield, Florida, passed away on March 7, 2026. Jean was born in Brooks, Georgia, to the late Ralph and Nannie Mae Nelms.

Jean was an honors graduate of Fayette County High School and attended Massey Business School. She enjoyed a 30-year career with the federal government, holding positions with the National Labor Relations Board, the Federal Aviation Administration, and the U.S. Courts in both the Northern District of Georgia and the Central District of California. Jean was known as an excellent office manager and truly enjoyed her work.

After retiring from the federal government, Jean continued working in various administrative and retail positions. During two different periods living in Florida, she especially enjoyed working for The Walt Disney Company (Disney World), where she remained employed until the age of 75.

Jean was an avid reader and a devoted animal lover. As long as she had books, a cat, and a cup of coffee nearby, she was happy. She was known for her generosity, kindness, humility, and her belief in always doing your best.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Edward A. McNorton in 1999, and her sister, Peggy Nelms Huey in 2021.

She is survived by her son, John Gallman; sister and brother-in-law, Helen Kent and Robert Sirpak; granddaughter, Kendall Gallman; nieces and nephew, Dru Bennett, Christian Ferguson, Amy Ley, and Dana Boyer (Jason Boyer); and great-niece and nephews, Warren Bennett, Alex Boyer, and Mackenzie Boyer.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 23, 2026, at Floral Hills Memory Gardens Mausoleum Chapel, located at 3150 Lawrenceville Highway, Tucker, Georgia 30084.
