Edward D. (Ed) Bunten

It is with great sadness that the family of Edward (Ed) D. Bunten announce his passing on September 16th, 2025.

Ed (Eddie) was born June 18, 1939 and raised in Duluth, Georgia. His parents are the late Ralph and Plassie Bunten, Duluth, GA. Eddie is survived by his wife of 63 years Bette (Swartwood) Bunten; daughter Stephanie (Bunten) Shaheen (Marty); granddaughters Brittany (Shaheen) Willingham (Branson); Brooke Shaheen, all of Cumming, GA. He is preceded in death by his sister Shelva (Bunten) White of New Bern, NC. Also survived by brother Larry Bunten of Duluth, GA (Beth); sister-in-law Gloria (De-De) Swartwood Osborne of Cumming, GA. Our very special friend (unofficial adopted daughter) Nurse Practitioner, mentor and advocate Tracy McDaniels at Northside Forsyth Internal Medicine and Geriatrics, Cumming, GA. It goes without saying that Agape Hospice was such a blessing and he had a great fondness for Lindsay, his case manager and nurse.

Ed graduated from the University of Georgia in 1961 and was a proud member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. After graduation, Ed joined the United States Air Force and began pilot training at Webb AFB, in Big Spring TX. He later went to on to Westover AFB (home of the 8th Air Force) in Chicopee, MA, where he flew KC-135 refueling tankers and was awarded the Air Medals for missions in Southeast Asia. His love for flying continued and he became a pilot with United Airlines retiring after 32 years in June of 1999. He and his wife Bette spent his retirement traveling to as many places as they could go and loved the adventures of seeing the world. Golf was another passion and Ed spent many hours with friends on the golf course. He had many hole-in-ones and trophies. He and Bette also loved playing golf together. He adored his family and was extremely proud of his beautiful granddaughters and his daughter Stephanie, who had always been so special to him.

There is no visitation but only a private family service at a later date.

Ingram Funeral Home, 210 Ingram Ave, Cumming, GA is in charge of arrangements.
