Edward Christopher Laube, 68, of Woodstock, GA formerly of Richmond, Virginia passed away May 15, 2026. Ed was born in Jasper, Indiana to the late Richard and Grace Peterson Laube. He grew up in Jasper and attended Jasper High School. After high school he attended Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Indiana where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in biology. While there he also played football and tennis and was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity.
After graduation, Ed attended the Naval Officers Candidate School. After receiving his commission, Ed started his military career as a missile officer on the USS William H Standley. Ed served on this ship until July 1983. Following this, Ed attended Naval Explosive Ordinance School and then the Naval Dive and Salvage Training Center. He ended his Naval career in April 1986 as a mobile diving and salvage officer.
After ending his military career, Ed spent many years as a commercial diver while living in Norfolk, Virginia. During this time, Ed met Kathryn Byrne whom he married June 6, 1987. For the first several years of their marriage, they lived aboard Ed's 50 ft. Columbia sailboat. When Ed's commercial diving career ended, Ed and Kathy relocated to Richmond, Virginia. There Ed retuned to college at VCU where he obtained 2 masters degrees including in geospacial analysis. He was subsequently employed by the Virginia Dept of Wildlife as a geospacial analyst, where he worked until his retirement on April 1, 2025
Kathy Laube had an untimely death on December 31st while battling recurrent breast cancer. By this time, Ed was battling several medical problems of his own. After living on his own for 6 months, Ed made the decision to move in with his sister in Woodstock, Georgia. He resided with her until his recent death. Ed was very grateful for a loving family that helped care for him during his failing health.
Ed was additionally preceded in death by his sister Laura in 2023.
Ed is survived by his sister and brother in law Linda and Rick Bell; brother and sister in law Rick and Judy Laube; nephew Carson Bell and niece Lauren Laube.
A graveside inurnment for Edward and Kathryn will be held at Georgia National Cemetery at a future date. The Veterans Alliance will perform military honors for Mr. Laube. Ingram Funeral Home & Crematory, 210 Ingram Avenue, Cumming, Georgia. 30040. 770-887-2388
