Emory Anderson ”Andy” Deaton, Jr, a Georgia native and metro-Atlanta resident for nearly 65 years, peacefully passed away on May 9, 2025. Andy was born to Emory Anderson Deaton, Sr. and Mary Tennille Deaton on January 27, 1939. He married the love of his life Jane Foxworth Deaton on March 5, 1960 in Atlanta Georgia. Together they raised their three children Jan, David, and Amy in Dunwoody, Georgia.
Andy was born in Jacksonville, Florida, but spent most of his youth in Edison Georgia. Andy loved to reminisce about his childhood years growing up in Edison. Following high school graduation, Andy moved to Atlanta to attend Georgia State University. While in school, Andy worked full-time installing flooring. Through Andy’s installation work, he met his business partner and together they grew a successful wholesale floor covering business. Andy was well known and respected in the flooring industry. He cultivated many long lasting relationships throughout his life! Andy was a devoted member of the Baptist Church throughout his life. In addition, he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
Andy was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Foxworth Deaton and granddaughter Mary Catherine Gibson. He will be sorely missed and survived by his children Jan Gibson, David (Lynne) Deaton, Amy (Bob) Spires, sister Lanette (Dale) Pupp, along with grandchildren Emma Deaton and Jane Claire Spires.
Andy had a passion for gardening and yard work, live music and dancing, playing golf, watching football and tailgating with his friends, relaxing on the beach, and traveling abroad. Additionally, Andy had the gift of gab and loved to socialize with his friends and family. Andy enjoyed playing the piano and was quite impressive on the harmonica. Andy was a man of high standards and had high expectations for others. He had a BIG personality for sure!
Funeral services for Andy will be held Monday, May12th, 2025, at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Ingram Funeral Home located at 210 Ingram Avenue, Cumming, Georgia 30040. The interment will follow at Sawnee View Gardens. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM-11:00 AM with funeral services to follow.
