Obituary

Evelyn Bennett, affectionately known as “Granny” to the family who loved her so dearly, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 25, 2026, at Emory Johns Creek Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. She was 97 years old.

Evelyn lived a long and beautiful life filled with family, friends, love, and memories that will be treasured for generations. To those who knew her best, she was much more than a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was Granny—a name that carried a lifetime of love, warmth, and cherished memories.

Family and friends were at the heart of Evelyn’s life. She treasured the moments when everyone gathered together, and nothing brought her greater happiness than being surrounded by the people she loved. Through the years, she created a lifetime of memories that her family and friends will forever cherish. Her greatest legacy is not measured in years, but in the love she shared with her family and friends and the memories they will carry forward.

Among the many traditions Evelyn leaves behind is her beloved sweet tea, a family favorite that her son Jerry has proudly mastered. Jerry, who shared a home with his mother and lovingly helped care for her, carries on this little piece of Granny’s legacy. It’s a simple but meaningful reminder that sometimes the sweetest memories are found in the everyday things we share with those we love.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her husbands, Clifford Major and Herschel C. Bennett; her children, Dennis Glenn Major, Janice Gail Hughes, and Tony Clifford Major; and her grandson, Joseph McFarland.

She is survived by her loving children, Donna Wallace McFarland, Jerald “Jerry” Alan Major, and Timothy “Timmy” Keith Bennett (Heather); her stepchildren, Glinda Perkins, Hilda Bennett, and Wendell Bennett; her daughter-in-law, Penny Major, widow of Dennis Major; and her son-in-law, Joseph Hughes, widower of Janice Hughes.

She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren: Lisa Little (James), Tonya Clark (John), Sonya McFarland, Kristy McFarland, Kimberly Ledford (Shane), Glenn Major, Emily Major, Jodi Hughes, Dusty Hughes, Brandi Hughes, Kevin Major (Laura), Keith Major (Rebecca “Becca”), and Katie Bennett.

Evelyn’s legacy of love for family and friends will continue through her great-grandchildren and the many generations of loved ones who will forever carry her memory in their hearts.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Ingram Funeral Home, located at 210 Ingram Avenue, Cumming, Georgia 30040.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Ingram Funeral Home, with Reverend Danny Spur officiating. Family and friends are welcome to arrive beginning at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service.

Following the funeral service, family and friends are invited to attend the graveside interment at Green Lawn Cemetery, located at 950 Mansell Road, Roswell, Georgia 30076. Attendees are asked to travel to the cemetery independently.

While her family will deeply miss her presence at the table, they will honor her memory by continuing the gatherings she loved so dearly, sharing stories, laughter, and perhaps a glass of Granny’s famous sweet tea.

Evelyn will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished by her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched.

Ingram Funeral Home, 210 Ingram Ave, Cumming, GA is in charge of arrangements.
