Fred Evaristo Sr., 84, of Alpharetta, GA and formerly of Stamford, CT, passed away peacefully after a brief but courageous battle with cancer, on Monday, May 11, 2015. He was at his home, with his wife and son by his side. He was born in Stamford on June 2, 1930 to the late Peter Evaristo and Lena Verderosa Evaristo. He is survived by his wife Vicki Brough Evaristo of Alpharetta, GA, his son Fred Evaristo Jr. and his wife Miriam of Las Vegas, NV, a granddaughter Francesca; his sister Susanne DePreta of Stamford; his niece Marlene Rybnick of Stamford as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and hundreds of life-long friends from around the country. Besides his parents, Fred is predeceased by his sister Theresa and brother Lawrence. Fred is a graduate of Stamford High School, class of 1948. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1948-1953 as a jet mechanic, as well as a guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. He moved to California where he had an Italian deli and restaurant for 25 years. Fred then returned to Stamford for 13 years with his wife and son, where he was the Chief Engineer for the Marriott and Stamford Plaza hotels. In 1990 they relocated to Las Vegas, NV where he was semi-retired, but drove a bus and limousine for Lady Luck Hotel. In 1998 he made his final move to their current residence of Alpharetta, GA where they made many more friends and enjoyed retirement. Fred was one in a million and will be deeply missed by everyone whose life he touched. He always made people laugh, was the life of the party and had an incredible sense of humor. Fred had a gift for giving of himself, usually in the form of handy work for which he was extremely talented. He was a founding member of the Starlite Cruisers,a classic car club based in Stamford, as well as a member of the Po Boys car club in Canton, GA. As graduate of the Stamford High School class of 1948, Fred took part in organizing the school reunions. He was everyone's favorite Uncle, Cousin, friend, and especially a devoted husband and cherished father. A memorial service and celebration of life will be held in Stamford, CT at a date to be announced. Fred's remains will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery later this year.
