Gary Thomas Bishop, of Cumming, GA, passed away on Monday, June 22, 2026. He was born in Schenectady, New York on July 19, 1952 to Robert and Lilian Bishop.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Perry Bishop, whom he married on July 2nd, 1994 He is survived by his sons, Leonard Thomas Bishop (Jennifer) of Cumming, Robert Deas Bishop of Jacksonville, his new granddaughter, Bailey. He is also survived by his brothers Robert Bishop (Carol) of Colorado Springs, Leonard Bishop (Kim) of Deltona, FL and sister Jo-Ann (Damian) of Carmel, NY. He is also survived by his nieces, nephews and cousins.
Gary was a proud graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point with his Bachelor of Science, Engineering in 1974. He later received his Master of Arts in Business and HR Management (HRM) from Central Michigan University. After his service in the United States Army, he obtained his certificate of Higher Education Leadership from the University of South Carolina, where he would later teach. The remainder of his career was in Human Resources in the construction industry. He was a proud member of Masonic fraternity and attained the 32° degree in the Scottish Rite. He was a proud member of the Rotary Club. Gary also was heavily involved with the CCP‑CT Grant. Guided for years by Gary, the grant strengthened the Building and Mechanical Trades across South Carolina. He helped provide training, accreditation, classroom resources, and SkillsUSA support, as well as scholarships for students pursuing construction careers. His leadership opened doors for educators and young people statewide and leaves a lasting legacy in the skilled trades.
He enjoyed a good scotch or bourbon, a cigar and sitting on the porch. In the fall, you would typically find him watching Army football. He enjoyed traveling and spending time with his brothers and sister but was happiest sitting around the table playing a game of cards with his boys.
Visitation will be on Saturday, June 27th from 10:00 am-12:00 pm at Ingram Funeral Home in Cumming, GA. Funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Wounded Warrior Project or Shriners Children.
