Claude “Gary” Dorsett, age 78, of Cumming, GA passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family on Monday, June 26th, 2023, after a long and courageous battle with prostate and bone cancer.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, friend, and successful businessman.
Gary started his career in electrical work at Gable Electric in the 1960’s as an employee, and he became the owner in 1978.
Gary had several passions in his life including traveling, woodworking, exercising and beautifying his yard. But his real passion was his family. He took pride in attending each of his 9 grandchildren’s different sporting events over the years. He never failed to make us all feel loved by the constant teasing and laughing. This was his love language.
Gary had a selfless attitude and was always trying to help anyone he could. He was a ball cap wearing, hardworking, funny, loveable, generous, handsome, and all-around wonderful man. He was a man of many titles and wore each one with pride. “Dad” and “Grandaddy” were his two favorites, and he left an everlasting impression on those that called him by those names.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Max and Vera Dorsett; mother-in-law, Dorothy Moore Hauser; sister, Barbara Dorsett Bottoms; brother-in-law, William Mobley; nephew, Hal Moore; niece, Donna Ferguson; and two unborn babies that he was eager to meet in heaven.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Barbara Moore Dorsett; 2 children, Kathy (Joe) Padgett and Patrick (Lyndsi) Dorsett; 10 grandchildren, Cole (Lindsey), Justin (Jana), Grace (Clark), Sydney, Ethan, Jacob, and Chloe; and 1 great grandson, Levi.
Additionally, he is survived by his sister, Sarah Dorsett Mobley; brother, Tony (Nancy) Dorsett; brother-in-law, Jim (Kitty) Moore; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and other extended family and friends.
Gary and Barbara were saved and baptized together in 1978 by Rev. Hugh Gilbert, a beloved uncle, at Wesley Chapel Baptist Church in Conyers, Georgia. They were also members at Free Chapel in Gainesville.
Funeral services will be held at Ingrams Chapel, Thursday, June 29th, at 2pm in the afternoon.
The family will receive friends at Ingrams funeral home Wednesday 4pm to 8pm and Thursday from 12pm until the time of the service.
Ingrams Funeral Home & Crematory, Cumming, Georgia is in charge of the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Prostate Cancer Foundation or Shriners Hospital for Children.
