Obituary

Harvey Eugene Fletcher, age 90, of Cumming, GA, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, 17 September 2026. Harvey was born in Theodore, AL on 22 April 1936 to Eugene Morris Fletcher and Ruth Evelyn Sumerllin Fletcher. He attended Theodore High School, graduating in 1953. From 1953-1954 he attended Livingston University, then entered the U.S. Air Force on 24 September 1954. He completed Basic Military Training at Lackland AFB, San Antonio, TX, followed by Airborne Radio Repair school at Scott AFB, Illinois. After Airborne Radio School he was stationed at Barksdale AFB, Louisiana until 12 September 1958 and was deployed to Goose Bay Labrador three times. While at Barksdale, he even enjoyed a cup of coffee with Elvis Presley at a local diner. Harvey was honorably discharged from the Air Force Reserve with the rank of Staff Sergeant on 23 September 1962. He attended Auburn University, receiving an electrical engineering degree in August 1961. He started work at Brookley AFB in Mobile, AL in August 1961. In the fall of 1961 Harvey met the love of his life, Oclla Etheredge, and became engaged in March 1962. In the summer of 1962 he moved to Huntsville, AL to work for Chrysler Corp on the NASA Saturn I Space Program. He and Oclla were married on 15 December 1962 in Providence, AL. While living in Huntsville, his three children were born, Michele, Greg and Jeffrey. The family moved to Ft. Walton Beach, FL in April 1966. Harvey began work at Eglin AFB initially with Fuze Research and Development, then in the Advanced Medium Range Air to Air Missile (AMRAAM) program for 25 years. He retired from civil service employment on 1 November 1996. Harvey and Oclla moved to Cumming, GA in 2002. He enjoyed painting, woodworking, stained glass and time with family. He was active in many Baptist churches, serving as secretary for his Sunday School class, president of senior adult group, teacher in Special Education Sunday School class and on the Baptism and Lord’s Supper committees.

Harvey is survived by his wife of 63 years, Oclla Fletcher, daughter Colonel Oclla Michele Fletcher, USAF (Ret.), M.D., son Greg Fletcher (Lisa), granddaughters Eden Fletcher Proctor (Tom) and Erin Fletcher, sister, Nancy McKenzie (David), niece Ashley Patrick (Cliff), nephew Josh McKenzie and great niece Addy Patrick. He was so loved and we are blessed to have had him in our lives.

A private family service will be held at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Wounded Warrior Project in memory of Harvey Fletcher.
