James Grimes, Jr., 67, of Cumming, Georgia, passed away suddenly on Monday, September 29, 2025.
James was born on June 26, 1958, in Birmingham, Alabama, to James and Donnella Grimes. He grew up in Birmingham and attended the University of Alabama at Birmingham, remaining a devoted Alabama football fan throughout his life. After retiring from Vulcan Materials, James devoted himself to caring for his parents with love and dedication.
In 2021, James and his wife Sharon moved to Cumming to be closer to family. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and countless cherished memories.
A lifelong learner, James was passionate about reading and especially drawn to technology. His personal library was vast, and he delighted in teaching himself new skills—from programming languages and circuit board design to calculus and beyond. James’s sharp wit, adventurous spirit, and thoughtfulness touched everyone who knew him. His love for travel and his warm humor will be deeply missed.
Survivors
James is survived by his beloved wife and life partner of more than 40 years, Sharon; his son, Trenton Grimes; his daughter, Trestalyn Grimes; his brother, Clifton (Gwendolyn) Kennebrew; brothers-in-law Don Tallant; Gary (Ariane) Tallant; sister-in-law Lisa Elzey; his grandchildren, Londyn, AJ, and Erin, and a host of nieces, nephews and other family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Donnella Grimes, and his brothers Alfonzo Kennebrew, Alonzo Kennebrew, and William Kennebrew.
Services
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Ingram Funeral Home Chapel, Cumming, GA.
Visitation with the family will take place earlier on the same day, Saturday, October 4, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., also at Ingram Funeral Home.
Interment will follow at Sawnee View Gardens, Cumming, GA.
Ingram Funeral Home, 210 Ingram Ave, Cumming, GA, is in charge of arrangements.
