Emblem

James “Scott” Shanley, born on September 28, 1956, in Davenport, Iowa, passed away on November 4, 2025, in Atlanta, Georgia. He was 69 years old.

Scott led a life defined by service, dedication, and connection. A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, he served from 1974 to 1978 before embarking on a distinguished career in aviation. For over three decades, Scott was a professional pilot with FedEx, retiring in 2021 after 37 years of service. Even after retirement, his passion for flying endured as he continued to spread that love by molding the minds of new pilots through teaching and working at ATI Jets.

On September 9, 1989, Scott married Buffie Rohrschneider. Their enduring partnership was marked by love and mutual support. Together they raised two children: their daughter Hannah Shanley of Nashville, Tennessee, and their son Davis Shanley of Buckhannon, West Virginia. Scott took immense pride in his children’s accomplishments and loved sharing stories about them with friends and family.

Scott is also survived by his brothers Rob Connely and David Hubbard. He was preceded in death by his sisters Laura Connely and Mickie Henrich.

Beyond his professional achievements and military service, Scott was known for his warmth and generosity of spirit. A devoted husband and father, he had an extraordinary ability to make everyone feel seen and valued. Whether coaching football or spending time with friends, Scott brought energy and joy to every interaction. He never met a stranger—only future friends.

In keeping with Scott’s generous nature, the family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to a charity of your choice.

May the memory of James “Scott” Shanley bring comfort to all who knew him and continue to inspire those whose lives he touched. As we gather to share stories, laugh, and smile in Scott’s memory, please wear a splash of color to celebrate the life of someone as bright as the neon hat he loved so much. The visitation will be held on November 7, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Ingram Funeral Home, 210 Ingram Ave., Cumming, GA 30040.
