James Pollitt Zimmerman

James Pollitt Zimmerman, 95, of Cumming passed away Sunday, December 15, 2024. 

 James was born and raised on a farm near Frederick, Maryland, his father a farmer, his mother a third-grade teacher. After graduating from the University of Maryland, he attended the University of Wisconsin School of Physical Therapy where he met and married his classmate, Jean Ann Kelly. He worked in the polio epidemics of the 1950’s and served as President of the Ohio Physical Therapy Association 1957-59. In 1963 he was elected to the Board of Directors of the American Physical Therapy Association. In 1965 he received a master’s degree in health care administration at the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health and was later elected to Fellowship in the American College of Hospital Administrators. He wrote extensively in various professional journals and served on the graduate school faculty at the University of Pittsburgh for over ten years. But his life always centered around his happy marriage and the joy he and his wife had in their five children and eight grandchildren. He was a communicant at the Church of the Good Shepherd, Cumming, Georgia. He is preceded in death by his wife.

 Survivors include his sons, Gregory Zimmerman of Arlington, Virginia, James W. (Christine) Zimmerman of Cocoa, Florida; daughters, Robin Z. (Mark) Willard of Fox Chapel, Pennsylvania, Lisa Z. (Jack) Morris of Lexington, Kentucky, Holly Z. (David) Oliver of Dahlonega, Georgia; grandchildren, Matthew (Nichole) Dietly, Abigail (Quinn) Kielbasa, Kelly Ann (Josh) Robertson, Samuel Morris, Lindsey (Kyle) Eastis, Megan (Tim) Bell, Julianne (Jeff) Hudson and Rachel Zimmerman; he has been blessed with 5 great granddaughters.

 A funeral mass will be held Friday, December 20, 2024, at 11:00 AM, at the Church of the Good Shepherd. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday, December 19th, 2024, from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM.
