Jerry Ray Gravitt

Jerry Ray Gravitt, age 84, of Cumming, Georgia, passed away Monday, July 7, 2025. He was born October 5, 1940, to Coy and Mary Ruth Thomas (“Tot”) Gravitt in Coal Mountain. He lived all 84 years of his life in the Coal Mountain community. Although a member of Coal Mountain Baptist Church, he attended Oak Grove Baptist Church following his marriage to Dephene in 1962. Jerry was a mechanic all of his life. Along with his uncle, Bud Thomas, they created Thomas-bilt Tractors which later became Tuff-bilt Tractors. His mechanical mind and attention to detail earned him the reputation that he could fix anything. His hobbies included motorcycles, tractors, guns, and steam engines. His friends in the Cherokee Gun Club knew him as “Double Dealer.”

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws Roy and Jeanette Adams, sister-in-law Marjorie Ball, and sister-in-law Dean Gravitt.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years Dephene Hopkins Gravitt, son Mike and Ann Gravitt, and daughter Kathy and John Carroll. The three grandchildren include Andrew and Taylor Gravitt, Molly and Cody McKelvey, and Will Carroll. He was blessed with three wonderful great-grandchildren: Jayden Gravitt, Colton Gravitt, and Waylon McKelvey. He is also survived by his brothers Jimmy Gravitt, Kenneth and Judy Gravitt, sister Charlene and Guerry Garrett, and brother-in-law Charles and Lucy Adams, along with numerous uncles, aunts, nephews, and nieces.

The funeral service will be held on Friday, July 11, 2025, at Ingram Funeral Home Chapel at 11 AM. Rev. Craig Richard, Rev. Dennis Bottoms, and Rev. Garry English will officiate.

Visitation will be Thursday, July 10, 2025, at the funeral home from 4 PM – 9 PM and on Friday from 9 AM until the time of the service.

Interment will follow at Sawnee View Gardens.
