Jerry Wayne Newcomer

Surrounded by his family, Jerry Wayne Newcomer, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 25th, 2025. He was born on May 31, 1944, in Atlanta, Georgia, to the late Harold Wright Newcomer Jr., and Mary Evelyn Newcomer. He attended Roosevelt High school, class of 1962, where he met and later married his high school sweetheart, Judy Watts Newcomer.

Jerry grew up in the Lakewood Heights area of Atlanta. He spent his younger years actively running track, playing baseball and football, and was his high school quarterback for years. While in high school, he participated in the ROTC program, which helped instill his patriotic spirit. Following high school, he attended Southern Technical Institute and later earned his Bachelor's degree from Kennedy Western University. His career began as a draftsman with Dixie Steel in Atlanta, which stirred his fascination with construction. He became a commercial general contractor with W. Ray Sarratt, Inc., of Chamblee, where he remodeled many of the original Rich’s and Macy’s stores of Atlanta, later becoming president/owner. He could fix most anything and there was never a shortage of duct tape. In his free time he enjoyed fishing on Lake Jackson, later in life on Lanier, and teaching all his daughter’s friends and family as well, to water ski and tube - with the patience of Job when behind the wheel of the boat. Daytona Beach was possibly his greatest love outside of family with every sunrise considered majestic.

Jerry devoted his life to his family, instilling honesty, integrity, and hard work to his children and grandchildren. He lived by a strong Christian faith which guided every decision, and was well known for his "God Bless” greetings. He never missed an opportunity to spend time with his children and grandchildren and was always in the stands attending every baseball, football, basketball, soccer, and all sporting events and dance recitals of both his children and grandchildren. He treasured being called ‘Papaw’ by his four grandchildren.

Jerry was predeceased by his parents; Harold and Evelyn Newcomer, his brother; Harold Wright Newcomer III (Buddy), and sister-in-law; Alice Newcomer. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Judy Watts Newcomer; his daughters Jamie Newcomer Curtis Titus (Jeff); and Jodie Newcomer Roush (David); his grandchildren Trevor Curtis, Peyton Curtis, Dalton Roush, and Kaley Roush; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
