Jerry Ray Newsom, 75, of Marquez, Texas passed away Thursday, November 17, 2022. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, Jerry was a resident of Cumming for the past 30 years. Jerry grew up in a close-knit family, farming to make a living and survive. He loved this part of his life and spent many happy days in his retirement on outdoor projects, farming, fishing and hunting in Dublin, GA. Born a natural entrepreneur, Jerry began learning his masonry trade in Texas. During this time, he met the love of his life, Linda and her three sons, Wade, Chad and Jason. Soon after, they welcomed their son, J.R. They relocated to Georgia, where Jerry and Linda started Action Masonry. Jerry and Linda always enjoyed being surrounded by friends and family. Jerry loved to host patriotic holidays and could man a smoker like no other. He also loved New Year’s trips to the Bahamas and spent many fun nights in the casino. He loved to dance to his favorite songs and he and Linda never missed a chance to two-step.
Jerry is preceded in death by his wife, the former Linda Dianne Whittington, who passed away in 2017 and his parents, William Paul and Elizabeth Nickerson Newsom, siblings, William (Buddy) Newsom, Forrest (Peewee) Newsom, Marie Wingo, and Dale Green.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, J.R. and Veronica Newsom; stepchildren, Wade, Chad and Jason Smith; grandchildren, Silas and Stella Newsom, Taylor Tumbleson and Maddie, Kayla, Jacob, Hannah, Noah and Ella Smith; siblings, Joy Lewis, William Paul Newsom, Jr., Larry Dennis Newsom, and Laura Paulette Quinn; partner, Veronica Crockett, and a number of beloved nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 22, at 11:00 a.m. at the Ingram Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow at Sawnee View Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
