John “Jack” Warren Storey, 80, of Atlanta, Georgia, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2026. He was born on April 24, 1946 in Montgomery, Alabama.

During his younger years, Jack was drafted and honorably served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. After his service, Jack dedicated his life to helping others, working first with the Social Security Administration and later with the American Cancer Society, where he co-wrote the fight song, “Every Candle Has a Name” for the Relay For Life events.

A natural storyteller, he became known as “Poet” within his motorcycle club. A talented musician, he loved rocking out on the guitar and bass. In his later years, despite the challenges of Parkinson’s disease, he made it his mission to surround himself with love. Neighbors will remember Jack cruising around in his wheelchair with his dogs Buddy and Maggie, always giving a wave or stopping to say hello.

Jack is survived by his loving ex-wife Sue Story and their two children, John “Johnny” and Ashley. He is also survived by a chosen family, who loved him dearly: Nicole Gilkeson, Annice Wyatt, Barbara Borowsky, Natalie Borowsky, Carol Borowsky, Charles Borowsky, and so many others. His life wouldn’t have been the same without his best friend, constant companion, and #1 caregiver Nicole Gilkeson. Jack was someone special to everyone that knew him.

A memorial service will be held at the Georgia National Cemetery where Jack will receive a full military honors service on August 17th, 2026 at 2:30 p.m. A celebration of life will be held immediately following the service.
