Judy Carnes, age 87, of Cumming, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 3, 2026. Born on August 26, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Taber Grant and Dora Bell Grant.
Judy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gerald Carnes; her son, Timmy Carnes; her brother, Joe (Janie) Grant; and her sister, Edna (JM) Beard.
She is survived by her loving children: daughters Dena Carnes, Pamela (Rex) Heard, and Darlene (Avery) Tinsley; and sons Rodney Carnes and Billy (Carrie) Carnes. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Jeff (Jessica) Heard and Dustin Heard, Josh Carnes, Haley Ainsworth, Tabor and Jess Carnes, and Ethan and Carson Carnes; and step-grandchildren Tyler Tinsley, Henry Webb, Carter Byars, and Oakley Byars.
Judy is also survived by her siblings: sister Linda (late Bob) Radford; brothers Mark (Paulette) Grant, Tom (late Faye) Grant, and Bobby (late Martha) Grant, along with many extended family members and friends who will deeply miss her.
Judy was known for her warm and welcoming spirit—she truly never met a stranger. She loved Coca-Cola, bluegrass and gospel music, and was especially gifted at playing the piano and singing with her daughters, Pam and Darlene. A spirit-filled woman who loved the Lord, Judy often shared that He taught her to play the piano. She treasured her time with her Auraria music friends and had a deep love for being on the road, always “keeping the roads hot.” Judy also had a fondness for Cadillacs and diamonds and was known to say she never told a lie…only when she had to. Her joyful personality, strong faith, and sense of humor left a lasting impression on everyone she met.
Visitation will be held at Ingram Funeral Home on Thursday, May 7, 2026, from 12:00 PM until 8:00 PM. A funeral service will be held on Friday at 2:00 PM with Reverend Emory Samples officiating. A graveside service will follow at Sawnee View Cemetery with Randy Roper officiating.
Judy’s life was a testament to love, faith, laughter, music, and connection, and her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
