Judith Dolores Orr

Newsflash! The Cumming Belk is officially closing its doors! Macy’s is going away forever! The Chick Fila will be laying off staff! And the Highway 20 Ingle’s is reducing hours.

Why?

Because Judith Dolores Allen Orr passed away on Wednesday, July 30, 2025. An avid shopper at Belk and Macy’s, a regular at Chick Fila, and a lifetime member of the Ingle’s Grocery Club, Dolores was a big personality loved by everyone. She was 83 years old.

Dolores (Mamma, Grandma, Nana, Lores, BeATrice) was born on Friday, March 13, 1942, in Mullins, South Carolina where her family worked as tenant farmers on a tobacco farm. She was the third of five siblings including two older brothers, Roscoe and Johnny, and two younger sisters, Ellen and Karen. Although she was the middle child, she became the Matriarch of the family, the person everyone came to for help.

Between her junior and senior year in high school, her family moved from Mullins to Duluth, Georgia. Dolores graduated from Duluth High School where she was a member of the cheerleading squad and the Homecoming Queen. Under her senior picture in the 1959 Duluth Wildcat Yearbook, she said, “Silence is golden, but I’m no gold digger!"

During her senior year, she met a young Jerry Orr from Cumming, Georgia, who was the grocery manager at the Duluth Parson’s grocery store. Dolores also worked at Parson’s. They fell in love and married in August 1959. The Orr’s lived in Forsyth County, Georgia and were married 65 years and had four children.

Dolores‘ husband, Jerry, retired from General motors and also was a bi-vocational Baptist pastor for over 50 years, pastoring nine different churches around north Georgia. Dolores worked different jobs including Lovable women’s garments; The Barbara Shoppe Hair Salon; The Sugar Shop children’s clothing store, a business she owned with her best friend Brenda Brown; the Gregory Chiropractic Clinic; the Internal Revenue Service, and the Forsyth County Department of Health, where she retired.

Dolores made holidays magical and was a wonderful cook. Family members would fight over her banana puddings and sweet potato pies. She was a voracious reader, reading two to four books every week. She loved anything Elvis as well as classical music, especially Tchaikovsky and Beethoven. She and her husband enjoyed playing Rook with friends. Dolores loved trips to Panama City Beach, FL, and Gatlinburg, TN, with family and friends. She loved going barefoot in the grass.

Dolores’ family and friends will tell you she was very social but also very blunt. If she loved you, you had a great friend; but, if she didn’t like you, Oooooh! Watch out!

The Orr’s longtime members of Brookwood Baptist Church in south Forsyth County.

Dolores was preceded in death by her parents, John Hubert Allen and Fleetwood Martin Allen; brothers, Johnny Allen and Julius Roscoe Allen; nephews, Chris Bottoms and Josh Gilleland.

Dolores is survived by her husband, Jerry F. Orr; sisters, Karen (Frank) Nelson, Ellen (Vic) Davis; sister-in-law, Ethelene (Roscoe) Allen; children, Jimmy F. (Amanda) Orr, Tim Orr, Jinny (Bobby) Tidwell, and Jarrod Orr; grandchildren, Zach (Micole) Orr, Hillary (Ricardo) Calderon, T. J. (Sydney) Orr, Jaden Orr, Jace Orr; great grandchildren, Bellame Orr, Avelyn Orr, Marianna Calderon, Lauriena Calderon, and Colter Orr; many nieces and nephews. Dolores’ grandchildren and great grandchildren were her world.

A service celebrating Dolores’ life will be held on Sunday, August 3, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. at the Ingram Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Tommy Weldy, Ronnie McCormick, and Jimmy Orr officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Sawnee View Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service.

The family would like to thank Brookwood Baptist Church for their incredible love and support, the staff at Capstone Hospice who cared for Dolores with such compassion and excellence, and Dolores’ special friends whose names are too numerous to list
