Obituary

Kathy Vaughan passed away on Monday, March 30, 2026 at age of 71 years old.

Kathy Vaughan was born on Thursday, January 6, 1955, in the small town of Cumming, Georgia. Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, Louise Ray and her stepfather, Billy Ray.

Kathy is survived by her husband, Emmett Andrew Vaughan; sister, Patricia Densmore; brother-in-law, Kenneth Densmore; brother, Steven Ray; children, Kristi Ann Vaughan and Kasey Vaughan McKey; grandchild, Josephine Louise McKey.

As the eldest, she embodied the essence of a matriarch from a young age, guiding and supporting her family. Over the years, Kathy became the go-to person for advice, support, and love. Family was her cornerstone, her guiding light. Kathy graduated from Forsyth High School. Kathy’s journey took a pivotal turn during her high school years when she met a charming young man named Andy Vaughan in 1970. While riding around town she met Andy, there was an immediate connection that blossomed into a beautiful love story. Just a year later, on February 5, 1971, they married, embarking on a shared adventure in life. As a couple, Kathy and Andy built their home in Cumming, a place filled with warmth and laughter and where they welcomed their first child, Kristi Ann Vaughan, in 1974, followed by a second daughter, Kasey Vaughan, 1987. Kathy was a dedicated mother, instilling values of faith, kindness, respect, hard work, and generosity in her children.

Her tenacity and determination were evident in her professional life as well. She began working at a factory at an early age and later dedicated more than 30 years to service at the Alpharetta post office. Her colleagues admired her unwavering work ethic, sense of humor and the affectionate way she worked with the community, always treating her customers with patience and compassion. A devout woman of faith, Kathy found joy in serving her church and community. Her humble nature and commitment to helping others made her a beloved figure in the lives of many. Family gatherings, especially during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter, were significant to her. She made holidays magical and took great pride in preparing lavish meals, ensuring no one ever left her home hungry. Even in the face of exhaustion—suffering cancer—she insisted on cooking, unwilling to let her loved ones down.

Kathy helped Andy build the cabin in the mountains, which became a cherished retreat for the family. Kathy adored spending time with her family sitting on the porch, going to the Pigeon Forge, TN, reading the bible, music, picking fresh fruits and vegetables from local farms and creating memories that would last a lifetime.

The arrival of her first grandchild, Josephine Louise McKey, on August 12, 2021, filled Kathy’s heart with immense joy. Holding Josie for the first time, she shared with Andy "this was the best gift she could have ever received." Her bond with Josie was special, marked by countless cherished moments, especially those when Josie wanted to snuggle with her Nana. Despite her challenges, Kathy found solace and happiness in these intimate moments with her granddaughter. In February 2024, Kathy faced a life-altering diagnosis: cancer. Yet, true to her spirit, she took the news with remarkable grace and reassurance, telling her family, “It’s okay. I will fight this battle.” Her unwavering faith in God, fueled her resilience as she faced the grueling reality of treatments. Known as a "champion" among her family and friends, Kathy continued living her life to the fullest, often shopping, hosting dinners, and never complaining about the pain she endured. On March 30, 2026, after a long and valiant battle with stage four cancer, Kathy Vaughan took her last breath, surrounded by her beloved family. Her strength and love impacted everyone who knew her, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, strength, resilience, and unwavering faith. The family welcomes those who wish to celebrate Kathy’s life, at the Ingram Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, April 3, 2026, from 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM. Saturday’s visitation will begin at 11:00 AM-12:30 AM, followed by her service at 1:00 PM. Kathy will find her final resting place at Hopewell Baptist Church, 15730 Hopewell Ra, Alpharetta, GA 30004. Kathy Vaughan's life was a testament to love, strength, and unwavering faith—qualities that will be cherished and remembered by all who knew her.

Kathy's family will keep her close in their hearts, sharing memories to keep her spirit alive forever. Knowing that one day, they shall meet again in the “heavenly home” where she will rest for eternity.
