Kenneth Vergil Lindberg

With heavy hearts and deep love, we announce the passing of Kenneth Vergil Lindberg, who died peacefully on July 18th, 2025, at the age of 82. A devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, and loyal friend, Kenneth’s presence was a steady and comforting force in the lives of all who knew him.

Kenneth was born on May 4, 1943, and grew up in the Chicago suburb of Flossmoor, where his strong work ethic, sense of service, and deep values were shaped early in life. He went on to graduate from Chicago Technical College with a degree in Architectural Engineering, and built a remarkable life defined by commitment to his family, his community, and his career.

Kenneth dedicated over 28 years as a firefighter in Flossmoor IL, a role he served with pride, courage, and quiet humility. Always ready to help others, he protected and served his community with honor. Alongside his service, Ken built a successful 40-year career in the steel industry in sales and was also deeply committed to volunteer work. He served as a Police Commissioner, was active in his local HOA, worked the elections, and volunteered with the Illinois Jaycees.

Above all, Kenneth was a family man. He was married to his beloved wife, Glenda, for 59 wonderful years, and they were just a few months away from celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary this coming October. Their bond was one of deep love, partnership, and unwavering support, a true example of lifelong commitment.

Kenneth was a loving and devoted father to his two sons, Eric Lindberg (Cumming, GA), who preceded him in death five years ago, and Brett Lindberg (Naperville, IL), who survives him. He cherished his daughters-in-law, Marnie Lindberg and Tami Lindberg Baller, and took immense joy in being "Papa Ken" to his six grandchildren: Madison, Taylor, Katie, Ellie, Tyler, and Natalie. Whether it was cheering from the sidelines, attending family gatherings, or sharing stories over dinner, Papa Ken was always present, always loving, and always proud.

He is also survived by his sister, Valerie (Lindberg) Gervais, and preceded in death by his sister Carolyn (Lindberg) Ridder. His extended family and many lifelong friends will remember him as a man of quiet strength, kind words, and constant devotion.

Fourteen years ago, Ken and Glenda relocated from Frankfort, Illinois to Cumming, Georgia, where they embraced retirement surrounded by nature and a close-knit community of neighbors. Ken found joy in playing golf and cherished the friendships he built, which brought him lasting happiness throughout his retirement.

A service gathering will be held to celebrate Kenneth’s life. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor his memory by spending time with your loved ones, offering kindness to others, and sharing a story or two that would make Papa Ken smile.

Rest peacefully, Ken. Your love, service, and legacy live on in all of us.
