It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Kevin Allen Cartwright on April 29, 2024. Kevin was a loving husband and father. Kevin Cartwright was born in Atlanta, Georgia in 1976. He was preceded in death by both parents Michael Lee Cartwright and Gail Debra Cartwright of Atlanta, GA, and his niece Karly Cartwright. Kevin grew up in Lawrenceville. Kevin was always the life of the party and enjoyed being around his family and friends and making others laugh. Kevin was a compassionate, loving friend to all those who knew him. Kevin would give you the shirt on his back and always made sure his friends knew he cared about them. He was passionate about helping others. Kevin was a light to many who knew him. His presence will be greatly missed by his wife, son, family, and friends.
Kevin resided in Cumming, Georgia. He has worked for many years in the construction and decking industry. Anyone who has ever worked with Kevin knows he was an incredibly hard worker. In 2023, with the support and encouragement of his wife, Kevin started his own business, Action Stump Grinding LLC. The business has been growing in a positive projection since the day he decided to start his own business.
Kevin is survived by his long-time best friend and loving wife Erin Szurminski Cartwright, and son, Joshua Jacob Landress. Kevin is also survived by one sister Tracy Hope Cartwright of Jefferson, Georgia, brother-in-law Eric James Szurminski, Sister-in-law Kim Dawn Szurminski of Comer, Georgia, mother and father-in-law Brenda Le and Troy Daniel Lee of Woodstock, Georgia, father-in-law James Michael Szurminski of Loganville, Georgia, aunt Beverly Diane Long, Commerce, Georgia and nieces Katie and Abigail Pilgrim and Alexia and Olivia Szurminski.
Kevin enjoyed boating and long jeep rides with his family, music concerts with his wife and friends, and visiting the beach and playing like a big kid with Joshua as they soaked up the sun. Joshua was the highlight of Kevin’s life. They will always share many memories including lots of beach trips, boating and tubing on lake lanier, cutting up with each other and wrestling in the living room. What made Kevin a loving father to his stepson was the unconditional love, support, and time he always spent with him. To Kevin, Joshua was his son. Joshua gave Kevin his nickname “K”. When Joshua was a small child and learning to talk, he could not pronounce Kevin, so he would just call out to him as “K”, it stuck, and from that moment he was known as “K” to his family. Kevin was a big kid at heart and always found it important to make sure his family and friends knew how special they were to him.
It takes strength to tolerate the pain of every day. Depression does not have a universal appearance and creates battles others know nothing about. Kevin's family is deeply saddened by his unexpected loss. Kevin's light will shine on forever in the lives of his family and friends.
