Larry Edward Tanner

Larry Tanner, 83, of Cumming, Georgia, passed away on Thursday, August 14, 2025, following a lengthy battle with dementia. Born in Coffee County, Georgia, to Clarence Tanner and Lucy “Doll” (Kirkland) Tanner, he later moved to Miami, Florida, where he graduated from Southwest Miami High School. He married Margaret Ann Jordan on May 12, 1962, and they had 3 children, Eddie, Lori, and Lon. The family relocated to Cumming, Georgia in 1972.

Larry retired as a BIC Engineer with BellSouth after 31-½ years. He served as a volunteer fireman, a little league coach, served many years as President of the Northeast Chapter of the Telephone Pioneers of America, and as President of the Lions Club. He loved classic cars, and was a devoted Red Cross volunteer, donating hundreds of units of blood and platelets throughout the years. He loved camping, driving his family in their motor home across the country on many happy family trips.

He is preceded in death by his son, Lawrence Edward “Eddie” Tanner, and his daughter, Lori Elaine Tanner.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Margaret Ann Tanner, his son, Lon (Cindy) Tanner of Cumming, Georgia, grandson, Ryan (Chelsey) Tanner of Cambridge, Minnesota, granddaughter Katherine (Brett) Ashcraft of Canton, Georgia, granddaughter Megan Tanner of Rush City, Minnesota, great-granddaughter, Natalie Ann Ashcraft of Canton, Georgia, and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Ingram Funeral Home on Sunday, August 17 from 1-2 pm, with a celebration of life immediately following in the chapel.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the American Red Cross of Northeast Georgia, 770-532-8453 or the Dementia Society of America at dementiasociety.org.
