Maggie Louise Shimer

Maggie Louise Shimer, daughter, sister, wife, mother, Nana, and Great-Nana, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 1, 2025, at the age of 88 in Cumming, Georgia, after a long battle with dementia.

Louise was born on August 11, 1937, in Pensacola, Florida, to Mary and Robert Watson. The oldest of five children, she was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Carol Watson Sapp; and her brother, Robert (Bob) Watson.

From a young age, Louise demonstrated a heart for service. She was always kind, caring, and devoted to helping others. As a girl, she served as Worthy Advisor in Rainbow Girls, an early reflection of the leadership and compassion she would carry throughout her life.

She graduated from Pensacola High School in 1953 and went on to build a 42-year career in banking, ultimately retiring from Bank of America as Vice President.

On April 11, 1958, she married her high school sweetheart, William (Bill) Grant Shimer, at The Gadsden Street Methodist Church in Pensacola, Florida. Together, they celebrated 67 years of marriage. Over the course of their life together, they made homes in various cities across the Southeast before finally settling in Cumming, Georgia.

Louise was a devoted member of Pilot International for 38 years. She served as President of both the Macon and Atlanta Clubs and later as the Georgia District Pilot International Governor for 2009–2010. Pilot International’s mission—supporting youth service, promoting brain safety and health, and caring for caregivers—was deeply meaningful to her. She treasured the friendships she formed through Pilot.

Louise shared her love generously through her cooking. Family gatherings, reunions, and holidays were made special by her homemade cornbread dressing, pound cake, fresh pies, and hand-churned ice cream—recipes and traditions that will be remembered with great affection.

Her legacy continues in the hearts of all who knew her.

Louise is survived by her husband, William (Bill) Shimer; her children, Donna Jakulski, Rusty (Joanne) Shimer, and Gary Shimer; her grandchildren, Jessica (Joe) Bernstein, Christen Jakulski, Haley and Grant Shimer; her great-grandchildren, Samantha Bernstein and Audrey Smith; her sister, Nedra Boreli; and her brother, Stanley Watson.

A joyful celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Ingram Funeral Home, 210 Ingram Ave., Cumming, GA 30040, followed by a reception.
