Margaret Haman

Margaret (Peggy) Haman, age 94, of Rabun Gap, Georgia, passed away on Saturday, January 26, 2013. She is survived by her husband, James B. Haman and three daughters, Sarah Haman from California, Carol Walker from Texas, and Laura Haman from New Mexico. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 31st, 2013 at 4 pm at St James Episcopal Church of Clayton, Georgia.

In her young adulthood she became a solo pilot, ending her flying career when she landed crosswise in a cornfield. She began her secretarial career in Warm Springs Georgia near the end of FDRs presidency. She met James Haman, married and moved into Georgia Tech as a residence counselor. Peggy was very involved as a wife, mother and Girl Scout leader. In her late 50s, Peggy returned to school at Georgia State to earn her R.N. She was a wonderful role model for all of the women in the family including the grandchildren. As a nurse, she worked in oncology and with hospice in Atlanta. When she moved to Rabun County in the mid 80s she worked to establish the first hospice in the county. After she retired for the final time, Peggy became very involved with St James Episcopal Church as part of the vestry, altar guild and Daughters of the King. Peggy was also active with bridge and weaving in the community.

Donations may be made to the Community Pantry of Clayton Georgia or St James Episcopal Church of Clayton in lieu of flowers.

Arrangements by Byars Funeal Home & Cremation Services, Cumming, GA.
