It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Martha Ann Hout, who departed this life on October 8, 2026, at the age of 87, after a brief illness at a local hospital. Martha was born on March 18, 1939, in Akron, Ohio, to Mary Louise Perkins and Louis Francis Cahoon. Throughout her life she had a steadfast dedication to her family and community.
Martha was united in marriage to Carl Hout on April 19, 1957, a partnership that blossomed over 69 and a half years. Together, they built a close-knit family, raising five children: Mike (Cindy), Tammy (Ken), Tim (Alicia), and Sue (Philip). Her family expanded to include seven cherished grandchildren—Jennifer, Sara, Stephanie, Casey, Ethan, and Seth—along with seven great-grandchildren: Hayden, Ashton, Carter, Elouise, Charles, Roslyn, and Austin. Her siblings, Mickie McConnell and Larry Putt, along with numerous nieces and nephews, also survive her.
Martha was predeceased by her parents, her infant son Mark Patrick Hout, and her grandson Allen Michael Hout. Despite these profound losses, her enduring spirit and love for her family never wavered.
A proud graduate of Stow High School in Stow, Ohio, Martha embarked on a life full of adventure as a dedicated military wife, traveling across the United States. Her resilience shone brightly as she often managed the household alone during Carl's deployments. She furthered her education at Pensacola Junior College in Florida and made significant contributions to non-profits, supporting families in need. After relocating to Georgia, Martha served as the program coordinator at the Funk Heritage Center at Reinhardt College, where many of her colleagues became cherished friends.
Martha's generosity and kindness were recognized with a humanitarian award from Governor Jeb Bush, testament to her tireless efforts to improve the lives of others. Outside her professional commitments, she was an enthusiastic member of the Red Hat Ladies in Canton, Georgia.
Her passions extended to the arts and nature. A self-taught artist, Martha's paintings, particularly of the beloved beaches of Pensacola, adorned the walls of her children's homes. Her talents also extended to sewing, crafting everything from dollhouse clothing to elegant prom dresses. Her home was a canvas for her creativity, especially during the holidays, when it was filled with festive decorations.
In her later years, Martha found joy in her garden and the company of her beloved dog, Daisy. Her home offered a picturesque view of the backyard, where she delighted in watching birds, especially her favorite green hummingbird, affectionately named Greenie.
Martha's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Emory Johns Creek in Suwanee, Georgia, for their compassionate care during her final hours. They also wish to express appreciation to all the family and friends who supported and loved Martha throughout her life, enriching her journey with joy and fulfillment.
In honor of Martha's legacy, in lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Special Olympics Forsyth County Georgia https://charity.pledgeit.org/SOForsythCounty and the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society www.NMCRS.ORG/RFD,
Martha's wishes were to be cremated at Ingram Funeral Home and Crematory in Cumming, GA, with a private service for her immediate family. A Celebration of Life will be announced in the future. While we mourn her passing, we celebrate a life that was rich in love, art, and service to others. Martha's spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her and her legacy will continue to inspire generations to come. We were blessed to have her in our lives.
Martha loved this poem.
In Memory
If Roses grow in Heaven
Lord, please pick a bunch for me
Place them in my loved One's arms
And tell them they're from me.
Tell them that I love them
And miss them;
And when they turn to smile,
Place a kiss upon their cheek
And hold them for a while.
Because remembering them Is easy.
I do it every day.
But there's an ache
Within my heart,
That will never go away.
