Obituary

Marvin Jerome Ruis, age 74, of Cumming, Georgia, passed away on April 20, 2026.

Marvin was born in Coffee County, Georgia, and spent his life building a legacy of hard work, dedication, and love for his family. He was a skilled tile layer and a respected residential and commercial remodeling entrepreneur. Marvin took great pride in his work, and his attention to detail and pursuit of perfection were unmatched.

Above all, Marvin was a true cowboy at heart. His love for horses was not just a hobby—it was a way of life. He spent countless hours riding, competing in rodeos and barrel races, and earning many blue ribbons along the way. He also found joy in raising farm animals and sharing those experiences with his grandchildren, teaching them to appreciate nature and the value of hard work.

Marvin never turned down a good cup of coffee, and a visit to Waffle House was one of his simple daily pleasures.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 49 years, Robbie Barrett Ruis; his children, Jodi (Richard) Westbrook, Anthony (Crystal) Ruis, and Kim (Colley) Jones; and his cherished grandchildren, Ashlyn, Peyton, Dakota Atnip, Lorali, Nate (Ansley), Nick Ruis, Skylar, and Blu Jones. He is also survived by his siblings, Doc Ruis, Minnola Burnett, Charlotte Carter, and Marie Kinzer.

Mother-in-law Etta Simmons, sisters-in-law Lee (Chris) Barclay, Jackie Barrett. Brother-in-law Jason Simmons. A number of nieces and nephews.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, Menzia Ruis Little and Joe Ruis; his siblings, Johnny (Geraldine) Ruis, Buddy (Dale) Ruis, Jerrell “Peanut” (Joyce) Ruis, Brothers-in-law, Don Kinzer, Charles Eck, Jerry Barrett, Terry Barrett, Jamey Simmons. Sister-in-law Darlene Barrett.

Marvin will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his love for the outdoors, and the deep bond he shared with his family. His legacy lives on in the lessons he passed down, the lives he touched, and the memories that will be treasured forever.

Feel free to wear western attire and cowboy hat.
