Mary Byrd

Mary Byrd, age 102, of Cumming, GA passed away in her home surrounded by her family on Mother's Day, May 14, 2023. It is with great sadness that the family of Mary Byrd announce her passing. Although we are all grieving, it is also a time to celebrate the wonderful life she had and the impact that she made on all of our lives. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and will be sorely missed by all. She also had many friends at the Mansions at Sandy Springs and touched all of their lives in a special way. 

Mary Rady Byrd, a native of Richmond, VA was born on November 20,1920 to Albert and Bertha Rolfe, and she was the second youngest of 7 children. She is predeceased by her husband George Allen Rady Jr, son George Allen Rady III, husband Harry Clifton Byrd Jr, and companion Ernest J. Brodbeck. She is survived by her daughter Susan Detwiler, son-in-law John, son Steven Rady, and daughter-in-law Marilyn, granddaughters Teri Ray (husband Kyle) and Melissa Geiger (husband Steve) and five great-granddaughters Annalise, Breonah, and Carlye Ray, and Leighton and Lillian Geiger. 

Prior to moving to Georgia, she lived in Maryland at her home at Spring Valley Hereford Farms with her mother and father. She then traveled with her husband and children for many years in the Far East and New Zealand before moving to Florida. She was a graduate of Gunston Hall in Washington, DC and a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church in Duluth, GA. She loved traveling and dancing. 

Services will be held on Wednesday, May 24th at 10:30 at St Benedict Catholic Church in Duluth.  Reception immediately following in the Parish Life Center at St Benedict Catholic Church.
