Mary Ferrell Dutton, affectionately known as “Ferrell” to family and friends, passed away peacefully at her home on July 31, 2025, in Cumming, Georgia, at the age of 95.
Born on April 19, 1930, in Gwinnett County, Georgia, Ferrell was the daughter of the late Luther and Annie Long Dollar. She devoted her life to her family, her faith, and the simple joys that brought her peace.
Ferrell was the beloved wife of Theron Edward Dutton, with whom she shared 67 loving years before his passing in 2017. Together, they were devoted parents to their three children: Gary Dutton (Debbie) of Dawsonville, GA; Marion D. James of Cumming, GA; and Greg (Kim) Dutton of Cumming, GA. She was a proud and doting grandmother to Trudy (Walter) Cain of Stone Mountain, GA; Emily (Trey) Cox of Dawsonville, GA; Natalie Dutton of Roswell, GA; and Jake Dutton of Cumming, GA. She is also survived by great-grandchildren Antavius, Chyna, and Akeem Cain.
Ferrell was preceded in death by her husband, Theron, her parents, Luther and Annie, her brothers Luther Dollar, Jr. and Charles Dollar, and her sisters Lucile Givens, Doris Brackman, and Annette Milford.
In her early years, Ferrell was a devoted wife and mother, raising her children in Tucker, Georgia, where she also lovingly provided childcare within her home. After relocating to Cumming in the early 1970s, she earned her cosmetology license and enjoyed a second career as a hairdresser, working from a home salon built by her husband. She later worked for 12 years as a skilled camera repair technician with Kodak before retiring.
Ferrell was a long-time member of Cumming Baptist Church, where she nurtured her strong Christian faith and shared it through her kindness, warmth, and quiet strength. She loved reading, cooking, watching the deer and birds that frequented her yard, and spending time with her beloved family. She will be remembered as a devoted Christian woman, a loving Nana, and a dedicated mother whose gentle spirit touched all who knew her.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 5th at 2:00 p.m. at Ingram Funeral Home in Cumming, with Pastor David Harris officiating, followed by interment at Sawnee View Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until the hour of service. Friends and family are invited to attend.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her honor to Cumming Baptist Church, 115 Church Street, Cumming, GA 30040.
