Mary Kathryn (Horn) Zears

Kathy is now resting and in peace as God prepared a place for her in Heaven and took her suddenly on January 15th, 2023. She is now reunited with her parents Lindsey Hammond Horn Jr and Mary Helen (Wilder) Horn of Kentucky, as well as her loving Mother-in-Law Hilda L. (Clark) Zears and other loved ones. God had a purpose for Kathy through her life, and she journeyed through both obstacles and opportunities to follow God's plan for her in faith, trust, joy, pain and trials. Accepting Jesus Christ as her Savior in her Teens, Kathy was the first to be baptized at the Clarendon Hills Baptist Church in Illinois. She had a sensitive, caring and trusting soul that sometimes was hurt by the evil of this world, but she knew God never let her walk alone, and she often was funny, had a unique and joyful laugh, as well as a keen memory and recall of family experiences, events and timing through her life.

After attending College of DuPage in Illinois, Kathy performed secretarial and bookkeeping services before her marriage in March, 1978 to Reginald W Zears at EKU Chapel in Richmond, KY. They returned to Chicagoland and started a family with their loving daughter Rachel in 1983 (Cumming, Ga) followed by their wonderful son Brandon in 1985 (Naperville IL.) Kathy volunteered her services in Wheaton Bible Church Nursery: Cub Scouting Banquets/activities, West Towns Barbershop Chorus International Champions 1987; and other activities. Kathy enjoyed ceramics, bowling (high of 190), and knitting and crochet- in between lovingly caring for two fine children who have become inspiring Christian adults in a sometimes cruel world. Kathy collected bells from all of the United States as the family traveled while camping and vacationing- having visited all but Alaska.

Kathy leaves behind her Husband of almost 45 years, Reggie (Cumming, Ga) as they retired after his career of 42 years in Architecture/Engineering with USG Corp headquartered in Chicago; daughter Rachel S Zears, and son Brandon A Zears with wife Annie and precious granddaughter Katie (named after Kathy). Loving sister Linda (Monty) Gover of Somerset, Ky, as well as her wonderful brother Steve Horn also of Somerset, KY., with nieces and nephews Preston,Lauren, Grant, Andrew and Robert. Father-in Law Russell (Linda) Zears (91) of East Peoria, brother and sisters-in-Law Russ (Chalda) Zears of Austin, TX; Rhonda Zears of Gainesville, GA and Robin (Paul) Schutte of Frankfort, IN. with nieces and nephews Amanda, Adam, Morgan and Ryan.

Kathy's favorite hymns- Amazing Grace and Standing on the Promises of God, and she was preparing to sing with her little granddaughter- Jesus Loves me...
