Mary Armell Voyles, 94, of Dawsonville passed away Friday, June 14, 2024. Born in Copper Hill, TN, she was one of 8 kids. Mary was known for her dry sense of humor and a little sass that for sure kept meyou laughing. Mary loved talking to people about Jesus, spreading faith and kindness wherever she went. Her kids were her world, and she would do anything for them. Few were blessed to call her mom, but she was known to most as Memaw.Mary had a love for the simple pleasures in life. A good cheeseburger and a dipped cone from Dairy Queen could always brighten her day. She loved singing “Bushel and a Peck” and giving big hugs around the neck to her grandbabies, creating memories that will be cherished forever.
Visiting Mary was always a treat. Pulling up to her apartment, you'd find her either in her recliner reading the Bible, making gravy or cornbread in her black skillet, planting or sitting under a tree outside. She never met a stranger and made everyone feel welcome.
Thrifting at the Ric Rac in Dawsonville was one of Mary’s favorite pastimes. She had a knack for finding jewelry and shoes (that her grands often played with). Her green thumb was unmatched; she could root anything from just a leaf and had a special love for flowers of any kind.
She was a strong, independent woman who left a lasting legacy of love and laughter. The world was a better place with her in it. Our sweet Memaw will be deeply missed!
She is preceded in death by her sons, Roger Voyles, Ronnie Voyles and Tony Voyles.
Survivors include her children, Carolyn and Wayne Loggins, Katherine and Mark Page, Peggy and Kenny Dacus, Lisa and Aubrey Long, Gary Voyles; sister, Claire Cochran; 11 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday, June 17, at 11:00 a.m. at the Ingram Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Austin Houston and Rev. Keith Poss officiating. Interment will follow at the Dawson City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.
