Norma Jean Ayres, age 91, of Cumming, GA went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, August 5th, 2022. She passed peacefully with family by her side. Jean was born in Lewisburg, WV on January 2nd, 1931, to the late John and Bertha Holmes. She grew up in Charleston, WV, where she met her sweetheart and husband of 71 years, David Lee Ayres. After the two married in 1950, Jean joined her Air Force husband at Sheppard AFB in Wichita Falls, TX where David was stationed until 1955. While living in Texas, Jean and David were blessed with two beautiful daughters, Cynthia Jean, and Shelley Lee. Eventually, the family moved to Georgia where they settled down in Forsyth County and raised their beloved family which now totals to 24 extended family members. Jean and David were members of various churches, including First Baptist of Cumming, Rehoboth Baptist Church, Bridgeway Baptist Church, and First Baptist Church of Dawsonville. Jean and her family were founding members of Bridgeway Baptist Church in Alpharetta, GA. Jean lived a Christian life and was not afraid to share the gospel with others. Jean’s favorite hobbies included: playing the piano, singing, baking, gardening, cooking for her family during holidays and at times, a little shopping. Jean could always be counted on to spoil her grandchildren and great grandchildren, whenever the opportunity presented itself.

Jean was a kind and gentle woman, and she touched the hearts of all who surrounded her. Jean is now reunited with her parents, her siblings, Bud Holmes, and JoAnn Jordan, and her loving husband, David Lee Ayres.
