Friday, July 31 at the age of 89, our Mother joined our Dad in Heaven. We are saddened by her passing but we find peace in knowing our parents are together in a joyful, pain-free place, starting their eternal happiness in Heaven. We can only imagine the glorious reunion as Dad has been anxiously awaiting her arrival.

Mom lived a life defined by common sense. Her family will most fondly remember her ultimate credentials: she was an accomplished individual who earned

her master’s degree from the local school on common sense. She navigated life’s challenges with practical wisdom, levelheaded judgement, and a rare ability to see things exactly as they were. Above all her earthly accomplishments, her greatest miles occurred at the age of 12, when she accepted Christ as her personal Saviour during a tent revival in Shakerag, GA. This foundational faith shaped the remarkable woman she became-one who fiercely put others ahead of herself throughout her entire life.

She loved maintaining her home with a passion that was family and love. Everything had to be ironed and it was a place so pristine that the old phrase “so clean you could eat off the floors, was, in her case, a literal truth. She was also the undisputed Queen of Yard Sales, possessing a legendary eye for transforming into beautiful home décor.

Her life was a testament to Christian service. Whenever a loved one faced hard times, sickness or surgery, she was immediately at their doorstep with comforting meals and determination to clean their home.

She was known as the absolute best cook around; her fried chicken, scratch-homemade biscuits and legendary chocolate cake were so coveted that family and church members were known to sneak a slice of cake onto their plates before they even served themselves meat and vegetables.

Mom profoundly loved babies. For 10 years, she served as the dedicated “Nursery Mother” at Old Field Baptist Church. She fiercely loved every child in her care, making absolutely sure all babies were fed, dry, clean and happy before returning to their parents. She extended this same loving ministry into her community preparing meals and cleaning the home of fellow church members, loving every single minute of her services.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Spencer Wheeler and is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Vicky (Alan) Gourley, LaRae Wheeler, Diane (Jimmy) Whitlock, Joane Wheeler, Tracey (Jeff) Davis; grandchildren, Kristi Titshaw, Ashley Shelton, Brooke Reid, Spencer Gourley, Lauryn Williams, Chelsea Williams, Leah Davis, 14 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.

A service celebrating her life, her faith, and her beautiful legacy will be held Wednesday, August 5, at 11:00 a.m. at the Ingram Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at the Haw Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
