Peter C. Hughes, 81, of Roswell, GA, beloved husband of Linda (Pollock) Hughes (m. 1969), passed away on Saturday, December 20, 2025, surrounded by family, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Born in Spokane, Washington, Peter is the loving son of the late Henry and Lillian (Mancill) Hughes.
Peter was the proud father of his late son, David Hughes, and his wife, Sarah, son Eric Hughes and his wife, Beth, and daughter Lisa (Hughes) DelliCarpini and her husband, Joel. He was also the cherished grandfather of Ethan, Anna, Seth, and William Hughes and Emmy and Jack DelliCarpini. (And he would regularly brag about them to anyone who would listen!) Peter, one of three siblings, was predeceased by his brother, Michael, and his sister, Barbara.
Peter grew up in Haddonfield, New Jersey. After completing high school, he served his country as a Coast Guard Reserve. As a testament to his drive, Peter worked full-time during the day while taking classes at night, ultimately earning his Associate’s degree in business from Rutgers University. Peter drew on his education throughout a fulfilling career that spanned three distinct chapters. He began as a manufacturing representative for various products (e.g., Revere Ware, Casio, Weber) and had a knack for enlisting “volunteers.” (A young David and Eric conducted product inventory on more than one occasion.) Peter transitioned into the backyard game court industry, becoming both a sales representative and one of the first Sport Court distributors in the eastern United States. (An older David and Eric joined the family business–this time, working for a salary.) In the final season of Peter’s career, he made a complete professional change, retraining and earning certification as a home inspector. It was one of the many ways Peter showed his family that growth does not have an expiration date.
But it was Peter’s love for God that motivated everything he did. After living his early years for himself, Peter’s encounter with God in his twenties changed all of that. He’d often recall the night he was sound asleep, a house fire raging around him, when an audible voice spoke: “Peter, it’s not your time.” This (along with Billy Graham’s film For Pete’s Sake) changed the trajectory of his life. Peter stepped out of the fire and into a life of Service. Among other things, Peter volunteered in his local church, participated in Bible Studies, shared his testimony at prayer breakfasts, and served on the local board for both Gideons International and Youth for Christ. Peter shared his Faith at every opportunity and made sure it was reflected in life at home. His proudest legacy, however, was seeing that same Faith live on in his children and grandchildren.
This also shaped how Peter experienced the world, especially in his deep appreciation for God’s creation. He loved walks, bike rides, and road trips with his beloved Linda, tennis matches with his competitive children and grandchildren, hikes along green, winding trails, and time spent out on the water. He was able to enjoy all of these pursuits in the beautiful Adirondacks, where he vacationed with his children—and later grandchildren—for more than four decades.
A celebration of Peter’s beautiful life and legacy of Faith will be held at Fellowship Bible Church on 480 West Crossville Road in Roswell, Georgia, on Saturday, February 14th, 2026, at 11 am. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial donation in Peter’s memory to one of two places that were close to his heart: 1) the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA) or 2) Ministry Alliance (Charlotte, NC).
