Ramona Sue Palmer

Ramona Sue Harris Palmer, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2025, at the age of 87. Born on February 22, 1938, in Apache, Oklahoma, Sue's life was a beautiful melody, filled with love, music, and cherished memories.

An accomplished pianist and vocalist, Sue had a profound passion for music that resonated throughout her life. Her talent not only brought joy to her family and friends but also served as a source of inspiration to many in her community. Whether performing at church or sharing her gift in the comfort of her home, Sue's music was a reflection of her vibrant spirit and her ability to connect with others.

Sue grew up on a 160-acre wheat and livestock farm located five miles northwest of Apache, Oklahoma. During high school, she was active in several organizations, including the Future Homemakers of America (FHA), a girls' glee club quartet, the State Honor Society, the school newspaper staff, and she served as the assistant editor of the yearbook. In her senior year, she received the American Legion Award.

After graduating from high school, she attended Oklahoma College for Women and Oklahoma A&M College (now known as Oklahoma State University), where she majored in music. Once she had her first child, she decided to focus on being a full-time mother.

Sue is survived by her devoted husband of nearly 69 years, Merle Palmer, who stood by her side through thick and thin. Together, they built a warm and loving home filled with laughter. She is also survived by her son, Merle Eugene Palmer Jr., and her daughter, Debora Palmer Gilley, who continue her legacy of love and kindness. Additionally, she leaves behind her sister, Patricia Coleman, and her brother, Walter Harris Jr., as well as many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her immediate family, Sue was a proud grandmother of 13 grandchildren, a loving great-grandmother to 12 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandmother to 5 great-great-grandchildren. Each of them held a special place in her heart, and she cherished sharing her wisdom and love with the younger generations.

Sue's life was a testament to the power of love, family, and the joy of music. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. As we remember her, let us celebrate the beautiful memories she created and the indelible mark she left on our hearts.

A graveside service will be held to honor Sue's life and legacy at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia, on August 12, 2025, where family and friends can come together. In place of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Alzheimer's Research in her memory.

She was a firm believer in Jesus Christ and had received Him as her Lord and Savior. In all her ways, she purposed and desired to follow Him.

Enjoy your place in heaven, dear Susie. Your song will forever echo in our hearts and the weaving of your life, beauty for eternity.
