Robert Hardy Smith, 84, passed away Sunday, January 13 at Hospice Atlanta.
Born November 2, 1928 in Atlanta, Mr. Smith attended North Fulton High School and went on to earn a BS in engineering from Georgia Tech in 1953. He married Jean Armstrong in September of 1952 and the couple made Atlanta their home. Mr. Smith was a contractor with Raburn-Nash Flooring for over 30 years.
An avid and active outdoorsman, Mr. Smith enjoyed fishing, tennis and golf as well as numerous travels abroad. A dedicated Tech alumnus, he could be found with his wife and friends at the Yellow Jackets home games during football season.
Always the devoted family man, Bobby found one of lifes greatest pleasures in spending time with his family - especially with his loving grandchildren. He and Jean logged many, many miles attending the kids school functions and athletic events.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, Huggins Linwood Smith and Mildred Hardy Smith.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jean; daughters and sons-in-law, Lyndon (Lindy) and Tim Carter, and Leslie and Terry Young; grandchildren, Joy King, Dylan Carter, Beth, Robbin, Rob and Rebecca Young; by his sister and brother-in-law, Babs Smith Davis and Purnell Davis and their children, Jim, Eph and Susannah: and by bother-and-sister-in-law Donald and Maxine Armstrong and their children Drue and Michael.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, February 16 at 11:00 AM at Arlington Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimers Association (www.alz.org) or to Hospice Atlanta (www.hospice-atlanta.org).
