Rodger Scott Bennett (71) beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend passed away Friday evening, September 30th in Snellville, GA. He is survived by his wife and best friend Cynthia Bennett; Children Christopher Michael Bennett and his wife Elizabeth, their children Evelyn & Elliott; Meredith Davison and her husband Scott, their children Andrew, Jacob, & Zachary; Bruce Dykes II; Tiffany Gambill and her husband Eric, their daughter Alyssa; Travis Dykes and his wife Shannon; Victoria Crandall; and many friends who adored him. He is preceded in death by his parents Loren and Frances Bennett, and mother-in-law Ann G. Swink.
Born in Decatur, IL on August 11, 1951 he was raised in Florida and Georgia. Rodger attended Falls College studying computer science. He put down roots in the peach state and built a career in computers, retiring from McKesson in 2021. Funny, joyful, bold, jovial, kind, tough, loving, and selfless are only a few words to describe Rodger. His laugh was always boisterous and filled the room and beyond. He enjoyed being the life of the party, fast cars, NASCAR, cheering for Chase Elliott, and bowling!
Many of you may be reading this in a bit of shock, “I never knew he was sick”. Rodger was never shy about making a dramatic entrance, so why would his exit be any different? He lived life on his terms. He wanted life to be fun for him and for those around him. There’s nothing fun about cancer. Not only did he keep his diagnosis from the majority of his friends, he concealed the severity of his cancer from his family. This was a final act of selflessness, not wanting to be a burden on the ones he loved most – living out his final months on his terms.
His positive and joyful spirit during his battle with cancer earned him the nickname “Superman”. Superman left us peacefully on a Friday night for his complete healing. We look forward to the day we see him again – in the BEST Place.
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race,
I have kept the faith.
2 Timothy 4:7
Per Rodger’s request, there will not be a funeral service (his terms, remember?). However, his family will plan a bowling get together to honor his memory with friends. If you would like to be notified of this event, please send your contact info to meredith@reflectmercantile.com
