Sandra Durand, born on December 1, 1938, in Atlanta, Georgia, passed away peacefully at her home with her loving family by her side leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering devotion to her family and community.
A proud graduate of Sylvan Hills High School, Sandra began shaping the compassionate and generous spirit she would be known for throughout her life. She married the love of her life, Gerald Durand, and together they shared a remarkable 68-year journey—a true love story built on devotion, partnership, and grace.
Sandra was the proud and devoted mother of three children: Deborah Durand and her partner Joy Perkins, Michael Durand and his spouse, Bonnie Myers; and Deanna Todd and her spouse, James Todd. She leaves behind her loving sister and her husband, Sherry and Clay Springfield, who brought joy and comfort to her life. She also enjoyed holidays and vacations with close family friend, Nancy Willis.
She is preceded in death by her loving parents, William and Ludie Slate.
Sandra’s greatest joy came from her grandchildren, of whom she was immensely proud: Austin Todd, a Major in the United States Air Force JAG Corps; and his wife, Britta Todd and daughter Brooklyn Stamps; and Ashley Durand, a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, and her fiancé Forrest Knopps.
Sandra leaves behind a cherished circle of friends and extended family who will fondly remember her warmth, generosity, and steady presence. She gave freely of her time and spirit, dedicating herself to charitable work and always showing up for those in need.
Her life was marked by love, compassion, and grace. She will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the blessing of knowing her.
