Sara Pirkle Hardin Vaughan, age 88, was born in Cumming, Georgia on October 4, 1937. She passed away peacefully at home on July 25, 2026, after a brief battle with cancer.
More than anything, Sara loved her family, her Hopewell Baptist Church family, and friends. She was a founding member of Helping Hands, a member of the building committee for the Family Life Center, loved to cook and help with every event. Her honesty, strength, and spirited personality were just a few of the countless qualities that made her unforgettable. She leaves behind a legacy of unconditional love, unwavering devotion, and a lifetime of selfless service. Although the family grieves her loss, they find comfort in knowing she is reunited with those who went before her, and that she is resting in the presence of Jesus, her Lord and Savior.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Estelle Pirkle; her first husband, William Hardin; and siblings Milton, Albert, Nancy, and Carroll Pirkle.
She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Aubrey Vaughan; son Gary (Cindy) Vaughan; daughter Melanie (Jackie) Goss; daughter Karen (Mick) McLaughlin, and sister Joyce Wilkie.
She also leaves behind a family who adored their Granny: Brad (Amy) Vaughan; Brian (Shauna) Vaughan; Jonathan (Jessica) McLaughlin; Andrew (Liz) McLaughlin; Meredith Goss; Emily Goss; Jacob (Sarah) McLaughlin; and her 13 cherished great-grandchildren.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at Hopewell Baptist Church with Rev. Alan Sutton, Rev. Bud Sutton, Rev. Lee Gaddis & Rev. Mick McLaughlin officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM & Wednesday from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the funeral home.
